Salvete vos,

I have an exciting update for the VJCL. Please include it on the website and in the next newsletter (I’m bummed I missed the summer one). Mark, I’ve included an image to be used for the thumbnail, as well as one to be used in both placement of announcements. Sadly I won’t be able to make CAV this fall as the Fall Planning meeting is the same day.

Please have this as the content of the announcement:

The Virginia Junior Classical League is now tax-exempt! This means we can accept donations to make our state convention more affordable for students studying the Classics in middle and high school. We hope these donations can also be used for scholarships for students to attend their first state or national convention in the future.

There are three types of donations you can make: general funds, scholarships, and sponsorships. For general funds, donations will be used to fund the general cost of Convention to help keep costs down for student attendees in future years. Scholarships are specifically to help students who would not be able to attend either a state or nation convention otherwise. Sponsorships allow individuals, local chapters, or companies to sponsor an aspect of our Convention, whether it’s a room for a discamus or ludamus, or a table within the Graphic Arts hall, there will be a sign acknowledging the sponsor’s name or company. Sponsorships may also be anonymous. Any donation of $250 or more is tax deductible. You’ll be given a receipt to show the amount donated and any recognition given in return. You can find the donation button on the VJCL home page or go directly to https://www.cognitoforms.com/VirginiaJuniorClassicalLeague/VJCLDonation to fill out the donation form.

If there are any questions regarding the VJCL, see our website for more details. For specific questions about donations and other aspects of our convention, please reach out to Convention and Finance Chair, Stephanie Buckler at convention@virginiajcl.org.

Gratias vobis ago,
Stephanie
