Patty Lister is the recipient of the 2025 Lurlene Todd Teacher of the Year Award

As Patty’s nomination said, she is a dedicated, accomplished teacher who contributes to the Latin community outside the classroom. Patty has taught all levels of Latin, from beginning to beyond AP, at the Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology in Fairfax County Public Schools. Her program is well-known both in Virginia, and nationwide, for outstanding performance on academic and extra-curricular assessments and contests. Patty runs this busy program with a part-time colleague out of love for her students and dedication to the profession. She devotes much time and energy to Latin endeavors outside of the classroom including certamen and Junior Classical League, and anyone who has participated in either of these pursuits knows well the success of her students! Furthermore, Patty serves as co-chair of the National Latin Exam, leading the way to creating eight exams annually for over 100,000 students nationwide. For these efforts, and her admirable results, Patty deserves to be recognized and lauded with the Lurlene W. Todd Award!
