Angela Lloyd Book Award
About the Award
The Angela P. Lloyd Book Award is awarded to a middle or high school level teacher in a public or private school in Virginia who shows commitment and excellence in teaching. Nominees must be members of CAV and participate in meetings and/or have students who participate in contests sponsored by CAV. The award includes a gift of books selected by the recipient for their private or classroom use.
About Angela Lloyd
Angela Lloyd taught Latin at Seven Hills School in Lynchburg, Va. from 1961 until her death in 1987 and served as President of the Classical Association of Virginia during 1978-1980. This prize was established in her honor by her many friends, colleagues, and students. She was a graduate of Agnes Scott College where she majored in Greek and was elected to Phi Beta Kappa. She received her Master’s Degree in Classics from Johns Hopkins University. Angela was a dynamic and enthusiastic teacher of Latin. With her husband Robert B. Lloyd, Professor of Latin at Randolph-Macon Woman’s College, she brought great energy and vitality to Latin in Lynchburg and in Virginia, and with him she directed summer programs of the Vergilian Society in Italy, and she herself took several student groups to Italy.

Any person may submit a name for consideration for either award by completing the nomination form linked to the button below. The form includes a space for comments and recommendations. “Any person” includes a colleague, supervisor, student (current or former), parent of a student (current or former), or a member of the general community who appreciates the work of a CAV member. If you prefer to send a letter of recommendation, please limit your comments to one page if possible; do not exceed two pages.
In order to streamline the process and encourage more nominations for both the Angela Lloyd Book Award and the Lurlene Todd Award, the nomination form includes both categories and eligible candidates will be considered for both awards.
